How to use and AED!!!

I get asked quiet often how safe it is to use an AED. In reality it is very safe as long as you listen to the instructions. Below is a guide if you have never used an AED before. If you have any question or would like to learn how to use it with CPR, give me a call to set up a class.

How to use an AED!

This is a quick guide on how to use an AED. All AED’s operate in a similar manner but you should check with your specific unit before you need to use it. Also, if you are interested in purchasing an AED we can assist you with that. Give us a call to see what we can help you with.

i. Make sure the scene is safe.
ii. Tap the victim firmly and shout loudly.
iii. IF no response or no normal response, yell for help.
a. If help comes, send them to call 911
b. If no help comes, go call 911 yourself and get an AED.
iv. As soon as you have the AED turn it on and follow the instructions.
c. Remove all cloths from patients chest.
d. Attach pads to the victim. 1 in the upper right section and 1 in the lower left section of the chest.
e. Plug in the connector.
f. Stand clear of the victim and let it analyze the patient.
g. It will tell you to either shock or no shock advised. If the AED tells you to shock him tell everyone to stand clear and when the light flashes press the shock button. If the AED says no shock advised, follow the instructions to continue CPR.
h. Do CPR at a rate of 100 beats per minute and 2 inches down. Do 30 compressions and then give 2 breaths. Continue until help arrives or the machine tells you to stop.

These steps of CPR are very similar to the steps of CPR for an Adult and child. Please feel free to go back to the Adult steps for reference. Also, feel free to copy and re-post these steps for anyone to use.
